So much style, so little time. The LA fashion train has been chugging by so fast we haven't had a second to get off and actually write about it til now. Here's where and how we've been vogueing and vamping about the past few days.
Wednesday- We wanted to flick our Bics at Rock and Republic's runway show at Sony Studios, which felt more like an Aerosmith arena gig than a fashion event, with bleacher seating, blaring sounds and faux-hawked fellas in studded belts posing in every corner. After what seemed like an hour of seating and re-seating (America's Next Top Model 3 winner Eva, started out way in the back but ended up right in front by the time the show started) the show began with Duran Duran's "Save A Prayer" and a procession of Gisele look-likes in low-cut toga-ish dresses, slinky blouses and tops that bared it all, as in full frontal, let it all hang out, topless ta-ta action. It made the expensive pieces they were wearing look trashy. But as a gal behind us told her friend, "It's not about the clothes at this one." Maybe not, but there's no denying the sexy sillouettes of R&R's denim pieces, which livened up the show with models prancing to "Girls on Film." Yup, it was an all Duran soundtrack, and we just knew "Rio" would warm up the swim wear portion. It did, but they chose a new DD tune for the finale which fell kinda flat. In all, it was an entertaining presentation though, even if Paris Hilton ducked out early. Other recognizables included our gal pal Mena Suvari, Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice and (we heard, but didnt see) Katie Holmes. We'd have photos for ya, if the lighting and set-up were a little better inside the showroom. So instead of celebs or half naked models, please enjoy a shot of the really nice bartender who did fancy tricks for us at the after party ala Holmes' hubby-to-be in Cocktail... See the list of Absolut-ly cutesy cocktails on the right? We tried 'em all!
Thursday- The Petro Zillia show at Smashbox was a trip, especially since we got to share it with our Style Council cohorts. We played in the Lexus Hologram room, boogied next to giant mushrooms and eyed cuties like Marcus Schenkenberg and Amber Tamblyn while sipping florescent tequila and vodka drinks. And oh yeah, there was a fashion thing too, though the whole behind-the-scenes stage presentation seemed to be lost on most attendees. "Who's part of the show and who's not?" someone asked us. We weren't quite sure, especially since the cummulative effect of too many sweet libations seemed to have finally taken its toll. Alice was not feeling so wonderful by about midnight. Still, we did find the energy to ask for a Disney gift bag on the way out. Speaking of wonderland, it was the theme for trendsetting singer Gwen Stefani's after-concert party for her new Harajuku clothing line at the Max Factor Museum on Friday night too. Look for the full-report on both her show and the bash on the blog tomorrow.
