I wonder: How in the world did Zidane get named player of the tournament? Clearly, it was Italy's goalie, Buffoon, who was most deserving.
Also, it did not appear that the ref or the linesman spotted Zizou's head-butting, so I wonder who informed the ref. Do they have instant replay available on the sideline? The Univision guys were saying the stadium screens do not show the replays available to the TV audience, so the crowd was unaware of how Z earned his red card. Finally, they also mentioned that both teams had an average age of 29, so this would partially explain why Italy looked tired. It would not explain why France was constantly on the attack, however, even when they were down to 10 men late in overtime. Overall, just an okay Final.

I think it's a bit unfair to call Zidane's act one of "stupidity". In that case Materazzi's taunting act should also be labeled as stupid and even dirty. Did Materazzi taunt Zidane on purpose? After all, Zidane's violent act again the KSA player (and eventual expulsion) was due to the Saudi player using a racial slur against Zidane.

What Zidane did was wrong, no question about it, but what Materazzi did was equally wrong, especially if it carried the intention to the outcome that we saw.
